Miley's Side Swept Hair...

Since her drastic chop, Miley Cyrus has impressed us by finding several unique ways to wear her buzzed pixie. At a recent appearance on Good Morning America, Miley wore her interpretation of a side-swept hair trend. Her blonde hair was combed over, creating a deep side part that covered one of her shaved sides. Miley paired the look with her signature makeup look: bold brows, long lashes, and ruby red lipstick. What do you think of her asymmetrical style?

Natalie Portman's Style Blog

Natalie Portman has always been a trendsetter. In her first major role, as Mathilda in Leon: The Professional, she wore a sassy chin length bob that made her look girlishly innocent, with a gutsy touch of femme fatale. She always looks sexy, even in the most outlandish of costumes, like those she wore to play Queen Amadala in The Phantom Menace. She’s subtly sensual, and always poised, even when playing a stripper in Closer. There’s something quintessentially brunette about her, and although her hair has gone from short to long, wavy to straight, dark to light, we think she looks best with shoulder-length (or longer) dark locks and smoky eyes. Natalie reminds of the power understated beauty, and the classic elegance of the perfect shade of brown.

Chic Short Hair from Michelle Williams

Chic Short Hair From Michelle Williams

Michelle Williams is a Lattouf favorite –– she makes looking cool and beautiful ridiculously effortless! Today we found this picture of her from back in spring, and it reminded us of the wonders of short hair styles. The golden tones give her hue comforting warmth, and the pixie cut is perfect for her strong cheekbones and big wide eyes. Our thought for Monday: more girls should embrace wash and wear, short hair!

Step: Blowdry hair with fingers. Push it around to enhance natural texture.
Step: Apply a 10 cent piece size of KMS Hair Play Paste Up Spray to separate and accentuate texture by raking through hair and pushing into shape.
Step: Take a tiny bit more paste and use it to lightly break up bangs, so they are not too blunt.

The Pixie Trend

Celebrity Pixie Cuts

The twittersphere went berserk this week as news spread of Miley Cyrus’s punky pixie cut. Perhaps she was inspired by our dissemination of Mia Farrow’s iconic crop, how it changed perceptions of beauty and propelled Mia to stardom. Or maybe modern movie stars have shown Miley the way to Hollywood’s heart. The likes of Emma Watson and Ginnifer Goodwin revamped their image by going short; Anne Hathaway got back in the paparazzi gaze with the provocative opposite to her typical cut; and Carey Mulligan became the most recognizable of a new wave of British actresses when a short style uncovered her elfin charm. Read on for notes on making these celebrity styles work for you…

Step: Strong cheekbones and doll-like features help Emma Watson stand out in a short style. If you wear a similar look, make sure there is texture on top to give femininity and visual interest. Styling should be kept simple. Use KMS Hair Play Molding Paste to muss the shape; or use KMS Hair Play Dry Wax to create contrast and separation.

Step: Ginnifer Goodwin’s face shape is rounded; that great for this tight graduation. It pronounces her beautiful head shape, while the side-swept bang draws attention to her piercing eyes. Another easy look to style: Comb a nickel-size of KEVIN MURPHY STICKY BUSINESS through hair for even distribution, create head-hugging curvature, and make a polished side-part.

Step: With noticeably thick hair texture, Anne Hathaway will be feeling fresher, lighter this summer –– long, heavy hair is a bind in the heat. Her short, textured layers add definition to the face, and are easier to manage than bushy long locks. A quick blowdryer blast perfects this look. Cocktain KMS Silk Sheen Styling Cream with KMS Silk Sheen Polishing Serum mix together in palms, run through hair, and blast dry while tousling and perfecting the shape with hands.

4 Carey Mulligan. KMS hair stay styling gel or Moroccan oil hydrating styling crème or Kevin Murphy fresh. Hair dry shampoo

Step: Carey Mulligan rose to prominence with a signature short look; she’s been wearing a crop for years. What keeps it fresh is the bit of length she keeps on top. It allows her to do lots of different things, from disheveled ‘dos to pompadours to slicked backed looks and even inventive interpretations of updos. For styling, if you want control and structure, use KMS Hair Stay Styling Gel or MoroccanOil Hydrating Styling Creme; if you want it wispy and light and free, use hair creme; if you want a lived-in, textured finish with KEVIN MURPHY FRESH HAIR dry shampoo.

Miley Cyrus's Drastic New Do

Miley Cyrus & The Drastic Short Hair Cut

Last night Twitter went berserk as Miley Cyrus took to the medium to show the power of transformation. “Tick-tock,” she teased, while sharing a picture of locks ready to be chopped. Presently, the inevitable happened. The 19-year old siren posted a picture of her new platinum blonde pixie undercut. No longer flush with the traditional features of feminine beauty, this is a dramatic change for Miley. They’ll be many critics of the cut, but like Emma Watson, Michelle Williams, and other leading celebs, this is a great way for her to radially change her image. The crop gives her a punk-inspired edginess that we’ve never seen on her before, while the long top with shortness underneath means she has a lot of freedom to play with shape, style, and texture. She can create a side-sweeping bang, slick it all back, or go for a disheveled ‘undone’ look.

Step: Apply to damp hair KEVIN MURPHY Anti Gravity Spray to give weightless volume and texture. Blowdry hair whist running fingers through to create movement.
Step: Apply KEVIN MURPHY Powder Puff to the roots this will create a mattifyed effect and give volume to the roots.
Step: Otherwise, ramp up the lived-in disheveled feel by finger-styling with KEVIN MURPHY Easy Rider. Focus on a slept-in look with contrast, movement, separation.
