Hair Color Inspiration: Citrus and Cream

image

Platinum locks with vibrant tangerine tips provide an unexpected mix of soft coolness with vibrant warmth. Bright tips are fun, but they’re also functional. The vibrant color makes hair seem thicker by drawing the eye to the perimeter shape. We especially love vibrant hair paired with glossy lips in a sheer version of the same tone as shown here. Read the style notes for tips on achieving the look and professional color formulations.

FOR THE HAIRDRESSER:
Tips: Start with pre-lightened, level 10 hair. Touch up roots in necessary, then paint formula 1 through ends, working in horizontal sections. Saturate at the ends and blend into the mid-shaft with gentle, vertical brush strokes. Isolate each section with saran wrap or foil. Process according to manufacturer’s instructions, then glaze blonde with formula 2.
Formulas: (On pre-lightened level 10 hair)
Formula 1: (Tips): Goldwell Elumen KK@all
Formula 2: (Glaze): Goldwell Colorance 3 part Clear + 3 parts 10N + 1 part 9KG

On Trend Colour

Muted Pastel Violet

This color carries a mix of delicate floral beauty and weedy toughness. The muted pastel red violet is unusual but on trend, and less expected than plain pink or blue. Try it alone, weave it through a deep brown base, or add a few violet tips to a pale blonde. However you use it, this stand out shade is sure to get noticed. Read on for the professional formulation and application tips.
Tips: Pre-lighten strands to a level 10 before applying the tone. If the hair is very porous, use less P mix to prevent ashiness. If using as a highlight, pair with a deep brown shade that has violet undertones, like Goldwell Topchic 5BP, 4BP, or 5RB.
Formula: (On pre-lightened level 10 hair)
Goldwell Colorance 3 parts 7PK + 1 part P Mix with Colorance Acid Lotion.

Celebrity HairStyle Inspiration: Golden Highlights & Long Waves for Halston Sage

Celebrity HairStyle Inspiration: Golden Highlights & Long Waves for Halston Sage

Nickelodeon starlet Halston Sage knows How to Rock this mid-to-long length heavily layered cut. The color is a great fit for her California-girl complexion. Using different tones of blonde – from dark and dirty to bright and golden – the subtle combination highlighting adds depth, dimension, and looks sensational. The shape and movement of strands flowing around her face-frame accentuate her strong cheekbones and pretty eyes for a youthful, beautifying style. It’s a straightforward long layer cut, made special with great color, and artful, feature-enhancing styling. For tips to attaining a similar look see below.

Step: So as long as your natural base color is no darker than a mid-brown, these flaxen highlights are well within your reach. Talk to your colourist about all-over multi-dimensional highlights ranging from fashionable dirty blonde to classic golden.

The cut is a classic long layer shape with center-part. Layers should fall around cheekbones and chin, to spotlight femininity.

Step: For styling, blowdry hair full yet smooth by cocktailing KEVIN.MURPHY FULL AGAIN and BODY.BUILDER applying body builder to the roots and FULL.AGAIN to the mid lenghts and ends; working through damp hair, and blowdrying with boar bristle round brush.
Step: After blowdry apply 1-2 pumps of KEVIN.MURPHY YOUNG.AGAIN and create tousled, ‘S’ and ‘C’ shaped waves that dance around the face frame. Mist a layer of KEVIN.MURPHY SESSION.SPRAY to add texture, hold, and humidity defense.

Hair Colour Inspiration: Raspberry Red

Hair Color Inspiration: Raspberry Red

Fruity and bright, this berry hue is a perfect choice for the when everything else is getting a bit cooler. Both vivid and organic, this shade strikes the perfect balance between natural and vibrant. Cool undertones make it suitable sun-deprived skin while bright tone has the luscious appeal of spring flowers. Getting this delicate shade can be tricky, so I’ve included my favorite formula for achieving the tone. For maximum reflection this color should be applied to previously uncolored hair that is the same level or lighter. If hair has been previously color, a cleanse should be performed to take the level slightly lighter than the target level 6, this will allow for maximum translucency and shine.
Hairdressing formulas below.

For the hairdressers:
Technique:
Apply Formula A to roots and then immediately pull formula B through from mid-shaft to ends. Process for thirty minutes, rinse and shampoo thoroughly. Apply formula C from root to end, and process for 10-20 minutes, or until desired tone is achieved. Rinse, condition and style and desired.

Formulas:
A. Goldwell Topchic 1 part 7RO + 2 Parts 6R with 10 Volume
B. Goldwell Topchic 1 part 7RO + 1 Part 6RR with 20 Volume
C. Goldwell Colorance 6VV + Colorance Acid Lotion

Braids Redefined: Beyond the Ordinary

Two simple plaits divided by a center part is a style usually reserved for young girls, yet with a few bold details this childish look is transformed into an extraordinary adult fantasy. Touches of primary hues, a loose, undone finish, and powdery roots add a fairytale quality to this vanguard style. The model’s pale, monochromatic makeup and smokey, shadowed eyes give her an intense, sultry look that keeps her braids from feeling too girlish. She is feminine and powerful, mysterious and sensual. This look is a great example of how even the simplest of styles can be transformed into trailblazing high fashion with a few special touches. Read on for tips on revamping your favorite classics.
Step: Support texture with product. If you want an airy, featherweight look, prep with KEVIN MURPHY FRESH HAIR, dry shampoo; for more structure and hold, use KEVIN MURPHY TEXTURE MASTER.
Step: Get a clean base. Even if you want a messy finish, start with clean texture and get the basic look as neat as possible. A bun, braid or twist are good, classic structural shapes for creating an interesting finish. The simple foundation will ground a whimsical look.
Step: Get creative. Combs, brushes, and even your fingertips are great tools for adding texture. Pull apart the shape you’ve created, use hair chalk for some bright tendrils and tips, or add accessories. Don’t be afraid to experiment, the most memorable looks are often gorgeous accidents.

Peeking Pastels

In this image, pastel and jewel tones come together in elegantly smudged layers of cool hues. Like the blended finish of a watercolor painting, this vibrant look is bright and clear –– with dazzling shades of violet and blue offsetting sparks of silver and beige. The sophisticated cut has shorter, tapered lengths underneath, which allows the longer strands of the fringe and crown to move with liquid fluidity.
An eye-skimming front lends a playful sexiness to the shape. To get this artful look in a few simple steps,
Step: Shape and color work together to create this look. Start with an undercut area from temples to nape. This will collapse the hair underneath and provide a backdrop for the surface texture.
Step: Color the shorter undercut in a dark tone and lift the strand on top to a bright cool blonde. Tone the blonde with a platinum shade, then add bright pieces with hair chalk or semi-permanent color.
Step: Use color save shampoo and conditioner to keep vibrancy and prevent color bleeding between the intermingled shades.

Forever Changing

Varying their choices from month to month; meet some of fashions hair yoyo's

Switching from glam to grunge on a weekly basis.
Rihanna has a catalogue of stylistic tricks up her sleeve.
A cropped Riri scrubbed up nicely in a demure white gown for this year's Met Ball; and then ruptured this sleek image with a catalogue of almost entirely male shirts and low slung shorts for her recent 777 tour.

While Kelly Osbourne 's shift away from her lengthy teenage grunge phase deserves an essay in itself, the reality TV starlet still seems to be finding her fashion feet. August 2012 saw a scruffy-haired Kelly while September shifted to a no-nonsense, top-knotted attempt at high fashion, with Tim Burton's Willy Wonka shades on for good measure.

The lyrics of Nicki Minaj' s 2012 single 'Va Va Voom' have certainly got under the singer's skin; or in the mind of her stylist, at least. From just September to October this year, the singer embraced a whole colour palette of neon and bubblegum hues in her hair. Long may she never find muted shades.

Jessica Biel's Perfect Fringe

Jessica Biel is always gorgeous, but this cut shows off her features in a whole new way.  The brow-dusting fringe and soft, piece-y length accentuate her eyes and cheekbones, while the hand-painted highlights brings dimension and brightness to the look. The combination of rich brown, caramel and gold perfectly sets off the fluid lengths of her wavy tresses.

Step: Ask your Lattouf Hair & Day Spa stylist for a razored one-length cut with a square fringe. Ask your colorist for hand-painted highlights along with the mid-shafts and ends, and tailored to the shape of the cut.
Step: Apply styling whip to the entire length for body and moisture. Dry the bangs with a flat brush, wrapping the hair back and forth to create smoothness.
Step: Dry the rest of the hair with fingers to encourage a natural texture. Finish with cream wax for added separation.

Summer Style Guide for Blondes - Inspiration Madonna & Reese

With summer just around the corner your not along if your wanting to add some life into your hair colour.
Most want to go lighter and brighter in the summer months although summer 2012 is more about the rich and bright colours rather that over bleached-out ones that damage your hair.
Light blonde tresses are all the rage, but don’t pull out the bleach just yet! Blonde shades are in, but the key for summer 2012 is keeping them natural looking. This means avoiding the platinum look and opting for natural golden hues.
If your hair is already light, you can add a slightly brighter shade for the summer season. One color trend is sunny, golden blonde hues to give your hair a sun-kissed look.
Lattouf Hair & Day Spa Style inspirations this season for summer blondes are Reese Witherspoon’s light golden shade or Madonna’s buttery blonde.

HAIR THE PERFECT CANVAS

Twenty years ago hair color went mainstream and with it, straight hair became all the rage. As much as we love textured, tousled, layered styles, nothing shows off gorgeous color like a smooth curtain of healthy, straight hair. The pictured ombre sheds light on what we mean. The waveless, glassy surface encourages reflection, which redoubles the wow factor flare. From chin to derrière, any one-length cut provides an ideal canvas to showoff a distinctive pigment. Learn how this simple shape can help your color shine.

Step: Healthy hair is an absolute necessity for this look. Using Silk Sheen Shampoo and conditioner ensures maximum luster, nourishment and polish.
Step: Hair cut in a single line should be trimmed often to keep ends smooth and even.
Step: KMS Silk Sheen Polishing Serum adds sparkle when applied on damp ends and blown dry on high heat. Running over lengths with a flat iron gives a dazzling finish.

One Direction Niall Horan ditches the blonde locks

One Direction star Niall Horan has ditched his famous bright blond locks.

The Irish singer, 19, revealed a new dark 'do at the iTunes Festival performance at the Roundhouse in Camden London last week.

Though some fans were shocked by the star's makeover, it seems that Niall has been considering changing his look for some time.

'My natural hair colour is nearly black,' he told reporters back in June.

'So I'm thinking about heading towards that kind of thing, because I've been doing this for a while.'

X Factor's Simon Cowell won't be pleased. In April he banned Niall from losing his boyish blond mane.

'[Niall] put in a text to him asking if he could change his hair colour. Simon was straight back on to him with a short reply: "No way,"' revealed an insider.

Wonder what Simon will say now?

We are loving the change, the hue makes Niall look much more mature.

Cascading Curls At The Emmy’s

Many of us watched the Emmy’s last week and while most were anticipating the award results, we were really paying attention to the hair. Click through for steps on how to create this glam read carpet look in your own hair.

Step: Towel dry hair to damp. From roots to ends, liberally apply KEVIN MURPHY UN.DRESSED.

Step: Blowdry hair, using a large round brush to create a playful, bouncy shape.

Step: Curl large sections of hair around a large barrel curling iron. Once all sections have been curled, brush them out to create loose, tumbling waves.

Natalie Portman's Blonde

Hollywood darling Natalie Portman, known for her gorgeous brunette ‘do, recently changed her hair color to blonde. Instead of an all overblonde, Natalie’s highlights and lowlights give her color some depth, while honey tones frame her face. The multi-toned color givesNatalie a youthful and fresh appearance. We loved her signature chestnut color but this new flaxen look absolutely stunning on the leading lady. What do you think of Natalie’s new hue?

Kelly Osbourne & her fresh ideas

Kelly reminds us that fashion can be fun. She’s grown from the awkward, punky girl we remember from The Osbournes into a svelte, quirky trendsetter. Her style has matured too, but the playful touches, like the towering topknot she wore to the Chris Benz show last week, or the bushy-browed shades she donned for the Fashion Week in London, tend to accompany her ensembles. She was one of the first to wear pastel colored hair, and her lavender locks have become a signature look. She always seems ahead of the trend, a perfect fit for Fashion Police. She’s also not afraid of color, and her vibrant outfits tend to mix fashion inspirations, drawing from a variety of decades and subcultures. She’s also the face of Madonna’s clothing line, Material Girl, proving that she inspires one of her own fashion role models. Next time you feel jaded by the prospect of picking out what to wear, look to Miss Osbourne for some fresh ideas.

Miley’s High Volume Hair

Miley’s High Volume Hair

Though there were some mixed reviews from fans of Miley Cyrus’ new haircut, she seems to have grown into her dramatic new style and is rocking the cut. As she had been known in the past for long hair, the change was an abrupt adjustment. However, we love her new length and color because it allows for her beautiful features to stand out. Her new hairstyle is edgy and striking, yet polished. What do you think of the way Miley styled her hair with super short sides and mega volume on top?

Cotton Candy Hair @ Anna Sui's SS 13 Runway Show

We loved the clothing at Anna Sui’s SS ’13 runway show with exotic prints and lacy details, but we can’t stop gushing about the hair! Blues and pinks sashayed down the catwalk on models’ ultra shiny manes to bring an extra “something” to the show. What do you think of this look from Fashion Week?

Blue Hair Inspiration

Hair Color Inspiration: In To The Blue

Blue hair, who knew! Katie Perry, the summer’s unofficial queen of color, has made what was once Grandma’s favorite shade into a burning hipster trend. It may appear unnatural, yet this season’s range of pastel hues has opened the door to a new wave of creative dyes. By bleaching, you can create a canvas to glaze to almost any shade. Or you can dip-dye or use ombre effects to create pockets of pastel blue that accent the shape of the cut. Read on for tips on going blue…

Step: This is not the color to do at home! It has a tendency to go green if put on top of the wrong color base. Basic color theory rules apply –– i.e.: if you put blue on top of yellow you get green. Be sure to ask your colorist on the best way forward.

Step: A salon colorist should pre-lighten hair, then glaze to tone to blue. Alternatively, for splashes of blue, expect the color to be painted on by hand.

Step: Pastel shades fade fast. It’s a good idea to wet shampoo less, and use refinish dry shampoo to dry clean hair. You should also avoid too much heat-tool styling, and if you do use irons, make sure to prep hair with thermal protector first.

Or for a less permanent effect use KEVIN MURPHY COLOUR BUG.
